Ruen Tong at Montien Hotel Surawong Bangkok Teams Up with Khua Kai Ai Krao to Elevate a Beloved Street Food Classic

A special collaboration brings a creative new take on wok-fried noodles to the iconic Thai-Chinese restaurant from October to December 2026.

Building on the enduring popularity of one of Bangkok’s best-loved Thai-Chinese restaurants, Ruen Tong at Montien Hotel Surawong Bangkok invites diners to rediscover the irresistible flavours of kuay teow khua kai, or wok-fried chicken noodles, through a special collaboration with Chef Oat Suphasaphong Kulchanarom of Khua Kai Ai Krao, one of Thailand’s most popular destinations for this street food favourite.

Available from October through December 2026, the collaboration brings together Chef Pu Anurak Khunnonyang, Executive Chef of Montien Hotel Surawong Bangkok, and Chef Oat, chef and owner of Khua Kai Ai Krao, to create an exclusive collection of wok-fried noodle dishes available only at Ruen Tong. Combining the character of a much-loved street food classic with the standards of a five-star hotel restaurant, the menu showcases quality ingredients, fresh rice noodles and the distinctive high-heat wok-frying technique that gives the dishes their signature smoky aroma.

The collaboration offers more than a fresh interpretation of a familiar favourite. It also celebrates the evolution of Thai street food, bringing its distinctive flavours to a wider dining audience through the culinary expertise of two chefs with complementary approaches. Chef Oat rose to prominence on Top Chef Thailand, where he won the challenge to design his dream restaurant and create its signature dish during the Elimination Challenge. He has also earned three Golden Spoon awards, recognised by The Spoon as a leading accolade in Thai street food.

Three Special Wok-Fried Noodle Creations

Leading the menu is the Ruen Tong Seafood Wok-Fried Noodles, a new creation developed exclusively for this collaboration. Taking inspiration from the popularity of Khua Kai Ai Krao’s wok-fried chicken noodles, the dish introduces Ruen Tong’s own Thai-Chinese culinary character through an abundant selection of premium seafood. Fresh crab meat, sea bass, crispy squid, sea prawns and fish maw come together in a specially prepared Thai-Chinese stir-fry sauce, adding depth and richness to every bite.

The wide rice noodles are expertly tossed over high heat and seared until lightly charred, creating a dry, satisfying texture and the distinctive smoky fragrance of a well-seasoned wok. The result is a generous seafood dish that brings together a variety of flavours and textures, offering a taste of the ocean in the heart of Bangkok’s Silom district.

Another highlight is the Chicken Wok-Fried Noodles with Chilli and Salt, which gives the classic dish a bolder, spicier character. The noodles are stir-fried over high heat until dry and fragrant, then seasoned with chilli and salt to create a savoury, lively flavour that complements the tender chicken and soft yet springy noodles.

For those who prefer the original, the Original Khua Kai Ai Krao Chicken Noodles offers the signature recipe from Chef Oat’s popular restaurant. Staying true to the original preparation, the dish features springy noodles and the characteristic aroma of wok-frying, delivering the familiar, well-balanced flavours that have made this street food favourite so popular.

Beyond the special collaboration menu, diners can continue to enjoy Ruen Tong’s extensive selection of Thai-Chinese à la carte dishes, freshly prepared dim sum, Peking duck and roast suckling pig. The restaurant’s celebrated Ruen Tong Chicken Rice remains another essential choice, having earned lasting recognition for its distinctive flavour and consistency, including the Bib Gourmand distinction from the MICHELIN Guide Thailand.

The special wok-fried noodle creations by Chef Oat and Chef Pu are available at Ruen Tong, Montien Hotel Surawong Bangkok, until 30 December 2026, with prices starting from THB 190++ per dish.
