Le Méridien Chiang Rai Resort Invites Travellers to Discover ‘Meaningful Connections’ through the New Sustainability Coffee Journey at Doi Tung
Following the success of Good Travel with Marriott Bonvoy™ across Asia Pacific, Le Méridien Chiang Rai Resort is proud to unveil its latest signature experience: the “Sustainability Coffee Journey.” This carefully curated odyssey in the highlands of Doi Tung invites guests to go beyond traditional luxury, offering a profound connection to the environment and the local community through the lens of specialty coffee.
Aligned with the resort’s recent Green Leaf Sustainability Standard certification, this journey is more than a tour—it is an invitation to explore the “Tree-to-Cup” philosophy in a way that preserves the natural beauty of Northern Thailand.
The Art of Discovery: A Sensory Journey in Doi Tung
Designed for the modern explorer who seeks to “Savour the Good Life,” this all-inclusive experience (approx. 7.5 hours) takes guests into the heart of the Doi Tung mountain range:
The Prelude at Latitude 19: The journey commences at the resort’s social hub, Latitude 19, with a signature espresso from Doi Tung wild coffee beans. This “Pre-Tour Kick-off” establishes a sensory link between the refined cup and the wild forest canopy guests are about to explore.
A Living Ecosystem: Guests are transported to the high-altitude plantations of Doi Tung for a guided forest walk. Here, they discover the secrets of “shade-grown coffee,” a sustainable method that prevents deforestation and protects the region’s rich biodiversity.
Tactile Traditions (Seasonal): Between November and February, guests join the community in the hands-on harvest of ripe coffee cherries. During the off-season (March to October), the focus shifts to an in-depth biodiversity tour of the forest’s flora and fauna.
The Craft of the Roaster: The journey continues with an artisanal roasting workshop and a Professional Cupping Session. Guests master the “slurp and savour” technique to identify the unique flavour profiles of Chiang Rai’s high-altitude beans.
Northern Gastronomy: A lunch featuring authentic Northern Thai cuisine and local snacks is served amidst the breathtaking scenery of the plantation, celebrating the authentic terroir of the mountains.
The Restorative Finale at Parvati Spa: The journey concludes back at the resort with a 30-minute Coffee Scrub and Foot Wrap at Parvati Spa. This treatment utilizes the natural properties of coffee to soothe and refresh guests after their forest walk.
Travel with Purpose: Impacting Community and Environment
Through Good Travel with Marriott Bonvoy, guests become active participants in Marriott International’s Serve360 goals. The Sustainability Coffee Journey directly supports the livelihoods of the Doi Tung community, transforming local farmers into expert guides and educators while ensuring the long-term preservation of the forest.
“At Le Méridien Chiang Rai Resort, we believe that travel should inspire and leave a lasting positive impact,” said Sitaporn Jesadavisut, Director of Sales and Marketing. “The Sustainability Coffee Journey is an educational bridge. It allows our guests to support the forest and the incredible people of Doi Tung, ensuring that every cup of coffee tells a story of conservation and pride.”
