Life Above On Nut
There is something pleasantly unforced about INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit. Rather than feeling like a hotel where every moment has been arranged for you, it has the character of a contemporary city base, somewhere you can return to after a day in Bangkok, stay for a while, eat well, get some work done, or simply watch the city from above. Set in On Nut, one of the neighbourhoods that has changed rapidly in recent years, the hotel feels connected to the energy outside without being overwhelmed by it.
Much of that character becomes apparent on the upper floors. On the 31st floor, The Kites Eatery makes a natural starting point to the day. Large glass windows bring in the morning light and open the view across Bangkok, while kite-inspired artworks add a distinctly local note, recalling the kites once flown over Sanam Luang. Breakfast is served as a broad buffet with a good balance of fresh and wholesome choices. At lunchtime, the signature Pinto Lunch Set arrives in traditional stacked lunch boxes, with four courses built around home-style Thai recipes from different regions, travelling in flavour from the North to the South. Ingredients from local farms keep the food grounded in the place, and the familiar form of the pinto makes the whole meal feel more personal than a conventional hotel lunch.
The same idea of making a hotel feel more like somewhere you actually live continues on the 32nd floor. The Open Living Lounge is deliberately relaxed, somewhere between a communal living room and a workspace. It works just as well for a laptop and a few hours of work as it does for sitting with a coffee and doing very little. Between 8am and 5pm, the Brew and Bite Delight pairs freshly brewed coffee with a pastry the kind of small break that fits easily into a working day or a slow afternoon in the city.
That residential feeling carries into the Townhouse rooms, where the bedroom and living area are clearly separated rather than compressed into one space. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring Bangkok into view, while the living area gives you somewhere to retreat to without having to get back out into the city. Put on some music, read for a while, or sit by the window and let the traffic and towers carry on without you. After a busy day, that sense of having a little room to yourself can be more valuable than any elaborate hotel feature.
Then, as evening approaches, the mood shifts upstairs. LUZ Bangkok Tapas Bar, spread across the 33rd and 34th floors, brings a very different flavour to the hotel. Madrid-born Chef Juan Ignacio García Racionero draws on the regional cooking of Spain, working with Thai produce to create tapas that feel at home in Bangkok rather than trying to recreate a Spanish restaurant somewhere else.
The room itself has its own Bangkok story. Angular lines take inspiration from the Rama VIII Bridge, guiding the eye outward toward the city’s glowing evening skyline. Above the bar, glass panels offer an unusual view of the rooftop pool, a glimpse of the transparent water and movement above that hints at one of the hotel’s most distinctive features.
That feature deserves a closer look. Up on the 34th floor, the rooftop infinity pool includes a transparent glass-bottom section that appears to hang over Bangkok. It is the sort of place where the skyline becomes part of the scene from almost every angle, whether you are in the water, beside the pool or looking down through the glass. The Giant Swing Pool Bar adds another reason to linger, turning the rooftop into one of the hotel’s most memorable spaces rather than simply an amenity attached to it.
Dinner, meanwhile, is best taken at an unhurried pace. Choose from the chef’s recommendations or settle in over a selection of tapas, with house wines, Spanish draft beer and signature cocktails alongside complimentary soft drinks for those who prefer not to drink. As daylight fades outside, Bangkok gradually takes on its familiar evening glow, and from up here the city provides a backdrop that needs little embellishment.
Perhaps that is what makes INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit interesting. Its appeal is not built around one spectacular feature, but around the way the pieces of a day fit together: breakfast looking across Bangkok, a Thai lunch served from a pinto, coffee away from the pace of the city, a room that feels comfortable enough to spend time in, and Spanish tapas above the lights of On Nut with a glass-bottom pool waiting overhead. It is less a hotel you simply return to at night than a place that can comfortably become part of the day itself.
