Switzerland Tourism invites Thai travellers to discover and experience the charm of Geneva, after the Return of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève exhibition

After the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève exhibition returned to Bangkok, Switzerland Tourism is inviting Thai travellers to look beyond the watchmaker’s bench to Geneva’s lakeside hotels, fine dining and year-round events.

Geneva is the home of fine watchmaking, and it draws travellers from across the world for its craft heritage, culture, gastronomy and historic lakeside hotels. The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) exhibition, held in Bangkok from 15 to 18 October at The Forum, Gaysorn Amarin and hosted by PMT The Hour Glass, drew watch collectors and Thai travellers who count Switzerland among their favourite holiday destinations.

“Geneva and fine watchmaking go hand in hand. The return of the GPHG to Bangkok was the perfect moment to introduce the city to Thai travellers, along with its attractions, experiences and activities for visitors to the region. We encourage Thai travellers to travel better: to slow down, stay a few nights longer and give Geneva the time it deserves.”

Ms. Thanchanok Nuammano, Country Representative Thailand, Switzerland Tourism
Watchmaking runs deep in Geneva’s identity. For centuries the city has been home to exceptional craftspeople and prestigious names in Swiss watchmaking, and that heritage lives on in historic manufactures, independent watchmakers, museums and boutiques. Visitors can follow the story at the Patek Philippe Museum, stop at the Flower Clock in the Jardin Anglais, or take a seat at the workbench at INITIUM. The city also hosts Watches and Wonders Geneva and the GPHG.

“Geneva invites visitors to discover the city at their own pace, from Michelin-starred gastronomy and artisanal chocolate to historic neighbourhoods, local vineyards and spectacular lakeside landscapes. With the partners we brought along, a visit to Geneva could mean assembling your own watch with a professional watchmaker at INITIUM, then ending the day with a fine-dining dinner and a stay by the lake at Beau-Rivage Genève.”

Mr. Adrien Genier, Chief Executive Officer, Geneva Tourism & Conventions

Where to Make and Where to Stay

Founded in 2015, INITIUM makes Swiss watchmaking accessible to visitors. Guided by a professional watchmaker, guests learn how a mechanical movement works, practise traditional techniques and, depending on the experience chosen, make a personalised Swiss watch of their own.

Beau-Rivage Genève stands on the Quai du Mont-Blanc, with views of the lake, the Jet d’Eau and the Alps, and has welcomed travellers since 1865. By the hotel’s account it was the first in Switzerland to install an elevator, Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known as Sissi, made it her Geneva pied-à-terre, and Eleanor Roosevelt stayed here in 1947. Its top two floors were redesigned by Pierre-Yves Rochon and unveiled in 2017. The hotel is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and Swiss Deluxe Hotels.
