From Bellboy to GM: Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 20 Welcomes David Coyle, a General Manager with a Passion for the Hotel’s DNA

Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 20 announces the arrival of their new General Manager, Mr. David Coyle.  Originally from New Zealand, a kiwi that learnt to fly, he has spent the last 30 years of his career doing just that.

Starting his incredible journey in Hospitality as a Bell boy on a small tropical island in the Whitsunday Islands, Great Barrier Reef in Queensland Australia it wasn’t long before he set his sights on greater things, knowing that General Manager was his ultimate target.

Being goal focused and driven by absolute love and passion for hospitality it took David no less than 12 years to achieve his goal.  Working his way from Bell Boy to reception (mainly due to the reception being air-conditioned he confesses) he gained his experience in Front Office, Night Audit and Reservations.

Working in the reservations department ignited what has become his defining unique strength and passion, being Sales, Marketing and Relationship Management.  He quickly moved from Reservations to Sales Coordinator and ambitiously climbed his way up to Director of Sales and Marketing gaining invaluable experiences from Village Roadshow (Daydream Island), IHG (Intercontinental Hotel Sydney) and Hyatt Hotels (Hyatt on Collins Melbourne) before joining Mirvac Hotels Melbourne at the infamous COMO Melbourne as EAM DOSM (Executive Assistant Manager cum Director of Sales and Marketing).

The Como changed his life completely and opened up a world of luxury, decadence and unlimited boundaries.  Hosting the likes of Robbie Williams, Shania Twain, John Farnham, Mary Taylor Moore, Kylie Minogue, Stefi Graf and Andre Agassi and The Cores (not that he name drops) amongst many other international celebrities, he quickly learnt what it means to say “the customers always right”.

His dream to be General Manager came true with The Lindrum Melbourne, the first boutique hotel to enter the market and bringing a whole new concept in hotel accommodation. Opening on 12th July 1999, David as General Manager took the hotel to stardom after only 2 years, winning the highly acclaimed AHA (Australian Hotel Association) National Award for Best 4.5 Star Hotel in Australia.  To David this was the defining moment of years of hard work, dedication and what is a lifelong love affair with hospitality.

Since then David has worked in Phuket, Bangkok in Thailand and Hoi An and Da Nang in Vietnam with ACCOR Hotel Group.  He was Cluster General Manager the Novotel’s in Karon and Surin beaches and the Swissotel Resorts in Kamala and Patong beaches before being venturing to Vietnam taking over the iconic Grand Mercure Da Nang Vietnam, all highly acclaimed ACCOR properties.

What can you expect to see at Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 20? David teases us by answering “a few little idiosyncrasies that push our normal boundaries and bring our passion for what we do come alive”.

David’s already working with his highly experienced team at the hotel to further enhance the already highly acclaimed Food Exchange, Gourmet Bar and Sky on 20.

Whatever it is you can be assured it will be fabulous…..stay tuned and keep an eye on the Hottest New Management to hit Bangkok.
