Dusit Central Park Elevates Urban Living with Biophilic Design, Connecting the Ecosystem of “People – Nature – Living Creatures” through Thailand’s Largest Urban Roof Park
Dusit Central Park sets a new global benchmark in mixed-use development by embracing Biophilic Design in a truly profound and intentional way. Collaborating with leading experts, the project is meticulously crafted to offer a tangible and sustainable nature-infused living experience. This vision comes to life with the unveiling of Thailand’s Largest Urban Roof Park, a green oasis in the heart of the city spanning over 7 rai (11,200 square metres), where urban living and nature coexist seamlessly.
This space is designed to strengthen the connection of “People – Nature – Living Creatures” while supporting a balanced urban lifestyle that integrates “Live – Stay – Play – Shop – Work” into its harmonious ecosystem. It also aims to reduce “Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD),” a modern physical and mental affliction caused by nature disconnection.
Vimarn Suriya Company Limited — the developer of Dusit Central Park, a world-class complete mixed-use development project under “Here for Bangkok” concept and the developer of The Residences at Dusit Central Park, Bangkok’s finest Ultra luxury residential development in Super Core CBD of Silom – Rama 4 – has embraced the Biophilia concept as the core philosophy for the project’s Roof Park which proudly stands upon completion as Thailand’s largest urban roof park and a strategic linkage for the project’s 4 main components of hotel, residences, retail space, and office building. In addition to enhancement in overall well-being and urban sustainability, this green space is also designed to foster a stronger relationship of “people – nature – Living Creatures” to reduce “Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD).” Through the integration of technology and design, Dusit Central Park aims to transform Bangkok into a city of happiness, resilience, and world-class livability.
Ms. La-ead Kovavisaruch, CEO of Vimarn Suriya Company Limited, stated “Our development motif of Dusit Central Park is to enhance urban quality of life by creating inclusive green spaces that everyone can share and utilise, while being beneficial to the environment and ecosystem. This initiative aims to enhance urban ecology that increases quality green spaces for Bangkok, raising awareness throughout society in recognising the importance and benefits of green spaces that should be preserved. We have applied perspectives on sustainability design and ecosystem as guiding principles, particularly in the Roof Park area. At the heart of this creation lies the Biophilia concept, coined by Erich Fromm and further developed as the Biophilia Hypothesis by Edward O. Wilson in 1984*, which suggests that ‘Humans have an innate affinity for nature deeply embedded in our DNA. It is not merely psychological, but biological. Disconnection from nature has real consequences on our emotional and mental wellbeing.’ Our vision is to foster this vital connection between ‘people – nature – living creatures’ to mitigate the effects of Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD)** in modern cities.”

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO)***, the minimum green space per person in urban areas should be 9 square metres, with the ideal target being 50 square metres per person. These green spaces must be accessible for public recreation and activity. It is also recommended that urban neighborhoods should offer walkable green spaces in every 300 – 500 metres. This principle is already being adopted worldwide, such as Singapore’s Nature Ways initiative****, which integrates tree and shrub-lined roads to lower temperatures, reduce pollution, and create biodiversity corridors. Under this initiative, Singapore is currently ranked 2nd on Treepedia’s Green View Index, a global benchmark for urban greenery.

Ms. La-ead added “We have applied case studies under the Biophilia concept that affect work performance. A Harvard University study*****, among other credible studies, found that occupants of LEED-certified buildings, with natural materials and views of green space, showed increased cognitive performance, enhanced problem-solving, and improved decision-making. We have utilised conclusions from these studies to expand green space boundaries into our project so that residents, hotel guests, shoppers, and corporate employees can access and experience nature whenever desired, reducing stress from work and lifestyle. Together with leading expert designers, we have integrated the principle of ‘Biophilic Design’ with the mixed-use development through elements that mimic natural shapes, patterns, and textures, including green landscapes, natural materials, and water features, to create relaxing atmospheres and help control area temperature through natural cooling, which is particularly important in Bangkok’s hot climate. These elements enhance all 5 sensory experiences tangibly, allowing visitors to feel deeply connected with nature even in the city centre.”
In line with this vision, Dusit Central Park proudly introduces Thailand’s Largest Urban Roof Park, a 7-rai (11,200 square metres) green oasis that offers an extended park view and feelings of a natural hillscape that merges visually with Lumpini Park. This is the first and only location in Bangkok where visitors can experience a visually seamless and panoramic view of both Roof Park and Lumpini Park in perfect harmony. The landscape has been designed using ecosystem principles, which encourage interaction between flora, fauna, microbes, water, soil, and air to support planetary balance. Through careful selection of 100% authentic Thai flora that helps capturing dust while attracting beneficial insects and small animals, including waterfall creations, this space can sustainably enhance surrounding environmental quality through air quality improvement, temperature reduction, and mitigation of Urban Heat Island Effect through rainwater absorption and storage. We also implement sustainability technologies including HVAC Optimisation systems and lighting control with MEP automatic detection system to adjust according to internal building environments and external conditions. We also have solar roof systems as well as water management and water treatment systems that treat wastewater within the project for reuse.

“Because we recognise the importance of health and well-being for Bangkok’s urban population, we create green spaces filled with ecological diversity that not only meet nature’s needs but also connect humans with nature, allowing people of all genders and ages to live balanced urban lives and engage in various activities. We offer Food Passage, a zone filled with renowned restaurants suitable for dining; Bird Nest, a zone where everyone can enjoy views of Bangkok and Lumpini Park; D Garden, a zone connected to the Residents’ Private Garden for Dusit Residences project residents; large and small waterfalls distributed throughout the area; a multipurpose amphitheatre for various activities such as art performances, music, outdoor cinema, workshops, and mini-events; as well as tiered walkways for an enjoyable nature viewing (Natural Trail). Our intention is not merely to create a shaded space within the project area, but to be one of the spaces that elevates Bangkok to become a quality city filled with happiness and capable of sustainable world-class growth, because good quality of life starts with a healthy environment,” Ms. La-ead concluded.
