Dieter Ruckenbauer Appointed General Manager of Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach

Seasoned Marriott executive brings three decades of operational, culinary and leadership experience to this beachfront resort, with a commitment to meaningful guest experiences and people-focused growth

Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach, the five-star resort on Phuket’s sunset coast, has announced the appointment of Dieter Ruckenbauer as its new General Manager. With three decades of experience at Marriott International, Dieter will lead the resort’s daily operations and drive its long-term strategy, with a focus on crafting distinctive guest experiences, developing its associates, and building deeper connections with the environment and local community.

Dieter’s career with Marriott can be traced back to 1996, when he joined the company as a management trainee in Salt Lake City, USA. Having gained broad experience across a range of departments, including rooms, F&B and accounting, he pursued a culinary career that culminated in his appointment as Executive Chef at JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok. In 2010, he moved into an operational leadership role as Resident Manager of Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, and later joined the pre-opening team at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park, contributing to the development of the hotel’s extensive restaurant portfolio.

Dieter achieved his first General Manager’s role in 2018, when he took the reins of Vana Belle, a Luxury Collection Resort, Koh Samui, followed by his most recent role as GM of Le Méridien Bangkok, where he oversaw a multi-million-dollar renovation and repositioning project, while strengthening profitability and guest satisfaction. Now, as GM of Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach, he is leading this popular resort into an exciting new era.

“I am honored and excited to have been appointed General Manager of Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach. The resort’s prime beachfront setting, passionate associates, and commitment to authentic hospitality set this apart as one of the island’s most desirable places to stay, meet and dine,” said Dieter. “I look forward to working with our talented team to create meaningful experiences for every guest, whilst supporting the growth of our associates, caring for the environment and deepening our connection with the community.”

Set directly on Nai Yang Beach, overlooking the Andaman Sea and surrounded by Sirinat National Park, this secluded resort has a deep connection to the local Sakoo community and the area’s biodiversity. Under Dieter’s leadership, guests – including couples, families and individual travelers – can look forward to personalized experiences and more opportunities to engage with the destination.

Dieter will also work closely with the culinary team to showcase the island’s authentic flavors across the resort’s restaurants and bars. By partnering with local fishing communities at Ching Pla seafood market, the farmers of Thalang, and producers within the Sakoo community, every dish will tell a story of Phuket’s northern coast, while giving guests the chance to connect with the area’s people, traditions, and culture.

“Hospitality is not simply about providing accommodation; it is about creating emotional connections and lifelong memories,” Dieter commented. “By combining genuine Thai hospitality, thoughtful service and the extraordinary beauty of Nai Yang, we want every guest to leave with a story they are excited to share and eager to relive.”

Known for his passionate, approachable and people-centric leadership style, Dieter places associate development at the heart of his approach. He plans to foster open communication, collaboration and recognition, while creating opportunities for associates to develop new skills and advance their careers within Marriott International. Beyond the resort, he intends to build genuine partnerships with the communities that have shaped the destination, with opportunities to showcase products, cultural experiences, environmental activities and community initiatives that benefit both residents and guests.

Outside work, Dieter is an endurance athlete who enjoys running, cycling, skiing and climbing. He is also a keen supporter of local artists and classical music. In Phuket, he looks forward to exploring Nai Yang’s tropical forests, marine wonders and farming communities, and learning more about the natural and cultural heritage of Sakoo.
