AirAsia Warmly Welcomes Chinese Tourists for Lunar New Year Offers Special Festive Promotion with Fares Starting at 1,789 THB per Trip

AirAsia, in a vibrant collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Don Mueang International Airport, kicked off the Lunar New Year celebrations today with a grand welcome for inbound Chinese tourists. The festive atmosphere reflects a significant surge in travel demand, with AirAsia recording a robust passenger load factor of 95% on routes from China—particularly from key cities like Wuhan, Chongqing, and Changsha.

To mark the auspicious occasion, special welcoming ceremonies were held for flights arriving from Macau and Chongqing. Executives from AirAsia, Don Mueang Airport, and TAT personally greeted passengers, distributing commemorative souvenirs to usher in good fortune. The celebration extended into the skies, with exclusive onboard activities featured on several inbound flights from China, delighting passengers with a unique cultural experience at 30,000 feet.

Ms. Tansita Akrarittipirom, Head of Commercial for Thai AirAsia, said: “This Lunar New Year has brought a palpable energy back to the tourism sector. The atmosphere at the airport is bustling, which is a highly positive indicator that Thailand remains a top-of-mind destination for Chinese travelers.

“During this festive period, our average load factor on China routes has soared to 95%, a significant jump from 80% during the same period last year. We are also seeing a reciprocal trend, with more Thai travelers visiting China to explore its renowned natural beauty, driven largely by the mutual visa-waiver agreement which has made cross-border travel seamless. We are confident that the collaborative efforts between the private sector and the Thai government to restore confidence will sustain this growth momentum throughout the year.”
