Located in the Red River Delta, Ninh Binh is one of the most visited in Northern Vietnam along with Sapa and Halong Bay. Called ‘Halong Bay on Land’, it is renown for its impressive green surroundings and picturesque countryside. Ninh Binh is the ideal place to be one with nature and enjoy its many unique natural places ranging from caves, mountains to rainforests.
When visiting this city, don’t miss all of these places. Tam Coc, a small town surrounded by mountains and rice paddies is worth to visit. Simple and scenic, it offers breathtaking from all angles. Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, the former capital of Vietnam, offers collection of monuments comprising of temples, pagodas, and tombs. Settled in the Ancient Capital, Trang An Grottoes is similar to Tam Coc but it offers more wide caves that can take a boat trip through. Phat Diem Cathedral is located in the middle of rice fields and canals. It is a perfect combination of Middle Eastern and Western style architecture. Tucked away in the mountains, Thung Nham Bird Garden is an ideal place to watch the birds. It is where most of the birds in Vietnam come to make their nest. You can also explore the caves on the water and in the mountains as well as visit orchard of tropical fruits.
Not far from Ninh Binh, Cuc Phuong National Park, a rare well-preserved rainforest, is where you can spot various wildlife such as turtle in the turtle centre and gibbons, monkeys and other primates in the primate centre. Most of the animals here have been rescued from around Vietnam and prepared to release back into the wild. The national park also has a botanical garden where you can spot thousands of colourful butterflies.
